(MOH) Music on hold
Music on hold refers to the business practice of playing pre-recorded music to fill the silence that would be heard by callers that have been placed on hold or during a transfer to another extension.
Most MOH systems are integrated into a business telephone system via an audio jack on the phone system. Some allow you to upload the music file to the phone systems hard disk.
The source of the music is can be from CDs, digital files and MP3, but some older systems may still use cassette tapes(sometimes employing endless-loops)

Music on hold devices:
Music on hold can be played from multiple devices, some smaller systems will prefer to have just a simple CD or MP3 player attached to them using a simple audio jack, which then plays a chosen CD or MP3 file that Is saved on a disk or removable drive, when people are placed on hold.
It is possible to have an audio clip playing on a PC close to the Telephone system, and have that play while people are on hold. This will allow the end user to log onto that PC, and change the MOH or pause it.
Depending on the size of telephone system this will usually determine what kind of MOH player is used. Small systems with only about 5-15 users, will generally use an external player such as a CD walkman, where as a system with 30-100 users may like to use the server as the MOH player.
