Dragon Boat Race 2009
Kung Hei Fat Choi! – Here come the dragons!
The Rotary Club of Burnley Pendleside has joined in the Chinese New Year celebrations this week with the launch of their Charity Dragon Boat Festival 2009.
This spectacular team event takes place on the Hollingworth Lake on 6th June 2009, local businesses and clubs are encouraged to enter this fantastic team building and fun event!
More than 20 crews from the Burnley and Pendle companies and organisations are expected to battle it out in 30’ brightly painted Chinese dragon boats over the 250m course, watched by several hundred spectators.
Each crew is made up of between 8 and 10 paddlers, a beating drummer at the front of the boat and a steering helm (provided by the organisers) at the tail end.
The ancient festival promises a fantastic day for competitors and spectators alike, with food and plenty of fun for all the family.
The event is being held to raise money for local Rotary charities in the Burnley and Pendle area.
Commenting on the festival, “Rob Scott”, said: “We are all really looking forward to the festival which should be a great day with lots of fun, music and entertainment. We hope to raise as much money as we can for local charities in the area.
